Celebrating what makes Te Kūiti Legendary
Photo boards of Te Kūiti
Winners and runners up of our phtoto competition "Unseen Te Kūiti" had their photos enlarged and printed on boards that are displayed in unused shop windows. Take a walk along Rora Street and see if you can spot all four.

We held an event to unveil the first two photo boards that were then displayed in unused shop windows on Rora Street. We were privileged to be joined by the Mayor, John Robertson who did the honours of revealing the photos boards. The photos used were from the winner in each category of our photo competition Unseen Te Kūiti. It was lovely to hear student winner Riley Coogan Beckett and open winner Christo De Beer talk at the event about their photograph and inspiration.
In June we installed the next two inenlarged photo boards in unused shop windows. The photos used were runner up and highly commended in the open category of the competition.

The printing of the boards was made possible through funding from Creative Communities and the DC Tynan Trust. Thanks to Flatmates Signco for printing the photo boards and designing the stands. They look incredible
The Legends Gallery
The Legends Gallery was unveiled in November 2023 and the rain stoppped long enough for us all to enjoy the event.

There are six plinths each dedicated to a local legend: Dame Rangimarie Hetet, Les Munro, Jim Bolger, Koro Wetere, Colin Meads and David Fagan.
The legends were selected for the significant contributions they made to the community of Te Kūiti, as well as to New Zealand more broadly.
They had made their mark in a range of fields, from weaving, sports, the Air Force, politics and shearing.
Thank you to everyone who joined us to honour the six inductees, to our sponsors and all who supported our committee to bring this project to the community we are still most appreciative.
It is always lovely to see people taking a moment out of their day to explore the gallery.

The Colin Meads Statue
June 19, 2017 – A magical day for Te Kuiti as the town paid tribute to All Black great, Sir Colin Meads.
Hundreds of people lined the main street as Sir Colin and his brother Stan unveiled the 2.7m bronze statue honouring the legendary lock who played 55 tests (133 games) for the All Blacks from 1957-1971, and in 1999, was named Player of the Century.
People from throughout NZ and the world have visited the statue in the past years, posing for photos with the famous lock, and paying homage to the man whom many regarded as the greatest All Black ever.
